Topeka Retaining Walls repairs and replaces retaining walls in Silver Lake, Kansas. We work segmental block, timber, boulder, and quarried stone. We dry out wet walls, rebuild runs that have given up, and turn a slope into usable yard. We are licensed and insured to work in Kansas.
Silver Lake sits nine or ten miles northwest of Topeka on US-24. The town was first laid out on the north shore of the Kansas River. The Kaw later shifted south and left old river-bottom ground around town. One job here sits on that bottomland. The next sits on a bluff edge. The two dig differently and they drain differently.
Bottom ground hands us an outlet problem. A drain pipe needs fall to reach daylight, and flat ground makes that fall hard to find. We shoot the run before we quote it, because a pipe that stops inside the backfill collects water instead of removing it. Bluff-edge lots give us the opposite trouble: plenty of fall, and a hillside above the wall that keeps sending water down to it.
Behind either wall we build the same column. Washed angular stone from base to cap, filter fabric between that stone and the native clay, and a perforated pipe in a sock at the bottom. Allan Block cores get filled with stone, so a drainage path runs through the wall as well as behind it. Clay packed against bare block has nowhere to push its water except into the wall.
Tell us where the downspouts land. A gutter discharging behind a wall soaks the one spot that will fail first.
